Sealcoating
is the application of an asphalt sealing mixture over worn or weathered asphalt to reseal the surface, and protect it from the elements. Sealcoating will greatly extend the life of asphalt and give it that fresh newly paved flat black look. Sealcoat also provides new traction to old "raveled" asphalt. Over time asphalt loses its strength and wears down making the aggregate in the asphalt appear on the surface. The aggregate then becomes worn smooth and slippery when wet posing potentially dangerous driving conditions. Our sealcoat has an abrasive base material (fine sand) mixed in and gives a new texture to the asphalt, also providing new traction to your asphalt.
Methods of Sealcoating:
There are a couple different methods to applying sealcoat that we will use, and we usually try to stick to the best available method for the project. Sealcoat can be applied via broom, brush, or spray.
Spraying sealcoat is what we believe to be the best application. When an asphalt sealcoat is sprayed on, it is applied in a very uniform pattern and is left on the surface of the exposed aggregate giving the asphalt a long lasting protective layer, especially when two coats are applied. Spraying sealcoat also penetrates deep into the small fines in the asphalt filling in the tiny pockets that hold moisture and lead to breakdown. Not every job can be sprayed and in most cases, even jobs that can be sprayed will require a bit of broom work to be done around concrete and other areas where over-spray is a factor.
Broom/Brush application is still a good way to apply asphalt sealcoat. If a project is too tight for spray, we will apply the sealer with a broom.
When you broom the sealcoat in, it works the product down into the small pockets penetrating and leaving no air bubbles in the final result. The downside to this is that sometimes it can leave some broom lines. Most jobs require a bit of broom work around concrete, decorative rock, structures and the street.
Asphalt Repair
Asphalt repair or rehabilitation is a constant occurrence here in Wisconsin. Our weather changes are extreme and wreak havoc on asphalt roads, parking lots, driveways, and pathways. During our initial assessment of your surface, we will determine which of our repair or asphalt maintenance systems are most appropriate. Crack filling:
Asphalt cracks are unsightly and can get expensive, quickly! You need to take action and fill them as soon as they occur, as cracks allow water to penetrate to your base material, deteriorating your pavement at an advanced rate. Asphalt Crack Filling or sealing pavement cracks to prevent water from entering the base and sub-base will extend the pavement life. Filling cracks and joints with hot tar is not a new practice. These pavement repair techniques have been commonplace practices for decades.
Hot Tar Crack Filling material is installed to fill and seal the crack and keep the water out of the cracks and from under the pavement. When water is kept out, pavement deterioration is slowed tremendously.
Asphalt Striping and Marking:
